| The seller purchased this car in 2005, when it was “not quite finished” (or not as you see it here). The previous owner had professionally completed the chassis and body (chopped 3” and shortened 6” in the front fenders) and the repaint over a 10 year period. The current seller resumed building the car at that time, and completed this gorgeous, custom-built Chevy in 2007. |

| [ Paint ] – The body had a very professional repaint. There are some nicks and scratches, but overall the paint is very smooth and has a really nice shine. Everything looks like it matches well, and we did not detect any trash or orange peel in the paint.
Looking closely at the paint (and being extremely critical), the following items can only be seen in certain lighting at certain angles. On top of the driver’s front fender there are approximately 4 chips in the paint. They range from about 1/16” – 3/16”. There are scratches on the passenger front fender above the grill and below the headlight. There is a little brush-touched section in front of the passenger fender wheel opening. About 8” behind the rear window and between the molded rear fender on the quarter panels, there is a spot that looks like a blister that is cracked. There is a 3/16” paint chip on the corner of the passenger rear fender, and chips along the edge of the trunk and about 2/3 down. The top one is about 2.5” long and the bottom one is about 4” long.
On the driver’s side of the trunk, there is a ¼” scratch about 1/3 of the way down and a bubble about 3” down. Where the driver’s door meets the front fender, there is a little rub in the paint, and a little scratch on top of the fender by the Duz fastener.
There are a few chips along the leading edge of the windshield and a tiny chip in the middle of the hood, halfway between the scoop and fender. There is a flaw in the paint around the license plate opening that extends all along top and partially down the passenger side of the trunk. It looks like maybe it patched and blended in. Scroll down and click to see close up photos…although this maybe be hard to see due to the metallic paint and bright sun.
[ Body ] – We did not see any apparent dents in the body and every looks straight. Most of the seams look like those you would see from the factory. We took close-up pics of all the lights. The headlights are in good shape, with no obvious chips or cracks. The tail light on the driver’s side is broken along the right edge, but the passenger side is in good shape. We did detect some skim coat over the vehicle (in most areas the paint gauge measured about 14 mils).
[ Chrome / Bright Work ] – There is not a lot of chrome on this Chevy other than the windshield wipers, mirrors, and trim rings around the headlights. Everything seems to be in very good shape, with no apparent dents, scratches, or pits.
[ Glass ] – The side glass, rear window and quarter windows are all in excellent condition. There are a couple of minor flea bites on the windshield.
[ Interior ] – Overall, the interior looks like it was very professionally done. The headliner looks fairly new, and is tightly stitched and very clean. The door panels are done with the Chevy logo, and the rear side panels have “48 coupe” sewn in. There is a fire extinguisher in the rear.
The carpet is very fresh, without any obvious wear. The dash and console are done in fabricated metal. The seats have 4 way, Russell Choice (RCI) lap and shoulder belts. The race style seats do not move forward or backward, but the back can be leaned back.
There are switches on the dash including the fuel pump, ignition, wipers, headlights, and stereo. It has an Autometer Procomp 9000 RPM tachometer, air conditioning, hazard flashers, grant mahogany wood trim on the steering wheel, tilt wheel, wiper controls on the steering column, B&M shifter, Billet gas pedal, and original style brake pedal.
[ Trunk ] – This ’48 Chevy has a remote trunk, and the power switch is located under the bottom rear of the car. You can see it in the additional photos of the chassis. We did not uncover any rust perforation or repairs in the trunk. There is no trunk mat, spare tire, wheel, or jack in the trunk.
[ Tires and Wheels ] – The wheels are Centerline Sportsmans. The front tires are Mickey Thompson Sportsmans, size 26 x 7.50 15 LT. The rear tires are Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro Series, size 33 x 19.50 LT. The tread on all 4 tires is about 7/32.
[ Engine ] – Under the hood, everything looks very professional. You see a big block Chevy 468 c.i., with a 4 barrel and after market intake. It has a 3 speed, automatic turbo, hydromatic 350 with shift kit. It does not have power brakes.
[ Chassis ] – The chassis has been modified as the car was shortened 6”. It has been fully boxed and is running Strange axles and shock absorbers. It also has ladder bars made by Strange engineering. The front end is an early Chevelle front cradle with power steering. It has front and rear disc brakes – the rears are Wilwood discs with floating rotors.
We did not detect any rust perforation on the floor pan or trunk area. You can see the seller coated the frame with a special epoxy, as the car is an occasional driver and he wanted to protect the underside.
[ Mechanical ] – According to the seller, this Chevy steers and brakes straight, without problems. He added that the there is no choke, so you have to play with the pedal when it’s cold (to warm it up). He says the transmission is “perfect” and shifts crisply. The drive train is very smooth.
Included in the sale are keys, remote fobs, and a California custom-made dust top car cover.
The 1600 miles shown on the odometer are miles added since the current owner completed the car. The title indicates true mileage unknown. |
