| This baby was lovingly restored by a life long, professional body shop owner and restorer. She received upgrades to bring her up with the times, but she’s still a classic at heart.

[ Paint ] – The paint looks like base coat clear coat. It is a metallic paint and is very smooth and shiny. Everything seems to match well. We did not detect any apparent orange peel, nicks, chips, or scratches in the paint.
[ Body ] – The body looks very straight. The gaps are very uniform on the doors, trunk, and hood, and the fits look like they probably would have from the factory. We went over the car with a paint gauge and the paint depth is about 16 mile (+ or -) all the way around. We did not detect any repairs or rust perforation, but there are a few minor dents on the driver’s front fender. They are right above the wheel, and very difficult to see.
[ Glass ] – The glass looks very nice, with no apparent scratches or flea bites; nor did we see any wiper marks, delamination, or cracks. The 4 large side windows have Ford stickers on them.
[ Chrome/Bright Work ] – The chrome and bright work is in nice condition, and from 4-5 feet away, it looks almost perfect. The areas that show slight wear, pitting, etc., would really clean up well if they were polished (see photos).
[ Interior ] – This Mustang has a Pony interior. The seats, door panels, and dash are soft and supple, without cracks or tears. The headliner is finely stitched, and did have a smudge that we later cleaned off. The visors are nice – very soft and supple – and the chrome latches are in excellent condition.
The carpet nicely matches the rest of the car. Notice the Mustang floor mats in the front! The steering wheel is wood (the column is chrome), and looks good. The cracks you see in the photos are probably from where the plies were put together. The gauges look original, and you can see the owner added tachometer, Summit oil pressure, and water temperature gauges. The console vinyl is in very good condition but the chrome down the middle shows pitting (see photos). The dash controls are in good condition, except the wiper and lights show minor pitting, as do the door handles, window cranks, and latches. The wood graining also needs some attention.
[ Trunk ] – We did not detect any rust perforation in the trunk. The mat looks like a new replacement, but looks proper for this car. You can see the spare tire, wheel, jack, and wrench underneath (see additional pictures below).
[ Tires and Wheels ] – All 4 tires are Toyo 800 Ultra Premium Touring tires. The fronts are size P185 75R 14, and the rears are size P215 70R 14. The driver’s front tire has about 6/32 tread; the other 3 have about 10/32.
[ Engine area ] – Under the hood, we see an aluminum BeCool radiator and overflows. There is an aluminum reservoir tank for the air conditioning unit (the Sandon compressor is an after-market addition). The air conditioning is a classic auto air unit made in Tampa, FL, retro-fitted to an R134 refrigerant. The valve covers and Ford Motorsport air cleaner are chrome. It has power brakes and a Performance Street Strip distributor. There are also various braided stainless lines for the power steering, A/C, etc. (see pics).

[ Mechanical ] – We tested the following items, and they were working at the time of the listing:

• Wipers
• Tilt steering wheel
• Cigarette lighter (in glovebox)
• Windows operate smoothly
The owner tells us the car steers correctly. The steering wheel is centered,
and it does not pull, wander, or bounce. The brakes stop properly, and the
engine runs smoothly. The transmission and drive train are also working
properly. The owner also told us that the driver’s window is slightly stiff but
might just need lubricated.
[ Chassis ] – Underneath, everything appears to be in good condition. We would consider it an excellent driver quality. We did not detect any perforation on the unibody frame rails. The suspension looks like it has newer shock absorbers. There are disc brakes on front and drum brakes on the rear.
We did not see any leakage on the engine, transmission or rear end, or any patches on the floor pans. The exhaust shows a little surface rust, but is in great condition, otherwise. The mufflers are in decent shape. We did not see any rust through on the rear frame rails, or on the floor of the trunk. The gas tank looks like it has a some type of under coating. |
