| The seller’s family has owned this Jag since 1998. They bought it from a private individual about 20 miles away from them. In the years they have owned it, they have replaced suspension and exhaust components, and maintained the car as needed. In this particular year, the convertible top folded down further (and flatter) into the storage area, than most of the other model years.
Note: Approximately 4 years and 2,000 miles ago, the sellers spent over $8,000 for mechanical updates to put this Jaguar in top operating condition. |

[ Paint ] - We do not know the age or type of the paint. There are a few small nicks on the front edges of the hood, as well as a chipped area about 1ft back from the Jaguar front emblem. The rear deck section and upper rear quarters show very little chipping. It seems likely that the hood had a more recent repaint at some time.
There are some light nicks on the sides, front, and back, but they are fairly minute and there are only a few. The hood has a few light scratches (probably from washings) and the chip with an outward dent about a foot behind the Jag molding. On the left side, there is about a 1ft section where the paint has aged to the point of the color wearing off. It looks like the clear coat is deteriorating, and there is a worn-through spot behind that.
The rear deck does not match the quarters quite correctly. There are some wear spots where the clear and coloring is starting to go bad. The tops of the quarters look like much older paint. The paint is worn through and the clear is missing or cracking in many places. It is also bubbling at the front of the left quarter at the top.
There is rust along the lower lip of the deck lid when you open it. It is on either side of Jaguar label by the trunk release. On the right side, there is a scratch and a dent in front of and below the passenger’s door handle. There is a scrape on the door and some rust on the lower section around rockers on both sides.
You can see the tape line on the lower left quarter and the right side from the stripe down. It looks like it was painted at some time and does not perfectly match the rest of the car. It is also starting to rust in the rocker areas on both sides. Without question, this car would need a repaint to bring it up to higher standards.
[ Body ] – In general, the body is fairly straight and shows pretty well. The hood looks nice and straight, except for small dent about 1ft behind the Jaguar emblem. There is also a small dimple at the top section of the driver’s door. The gaps around the hood, trunk, and doors all look pretty uniform.
We went over the car with a magnet, looking for paint touch-ups and repaired areas. We did not find any obvious areas with large amounts of filler or body repairs. We also went over this Jaguar with a paint gauge. The hood and deck seem to have about 12-14 mils of paint (which probably indicate a repaint at sometime). The tops of the quarters and doors look around 6-8 mils, which could indicate original (or at least less repainting).
[ Chrome/Bright Work ] – All of the bright work seems to be present – we did not notice any substantial pieces missing. Everything appears to be in nice condition, showing very little wear. There is some pitting and wear on the back bumper and the strips around the rear tail lights. The chrome on the driver’s mirror chrome has deteriorated a fair amount, but the rest of the car is in nice shape.
[ Glass ] – All of the glass looks clear. We did not see any discoloration or delamination. The front windshield has a small bull- eye about 1” in from the left side (around the identification plate). It also has some small pinhead size nicks from normal wear. There is a scratch in the glass on the lower wiper arch on the passenger side.
Both driver and passenger windows look clear, without any significant wear. The windshield, front vent window, and power windows all have same name on them (Triplex), so it could be original glass. The rear power vents are “LOF” glass, but they could be different glass if they were installed by the convertible top company. Hess and Eisenhardt installed the convertible top and modification.
[ Interior ] – Inside the car, the dash has held up pretty well and the steering wheel does not show a lot of wear. The wood in the dash and console has cracked, but other than that, the rest of the gauging does not show a lot of wear.
As far as the sellers know, the interior is original (and it looks like it could be). Some of the leather (especially the lower portion of the seats) is starting to get stiff, but the door panels and arm rests have held up pretty well. The backs of the seats, head rests, and arm rests look a little bleached from the sun. The upholstery surrounding the rear speakers and the area where the seat belts are attached shows a lot of sun damage (look at the additional photos below to see the light tan color). The fabric on the underside of the convertible top shows some wear, and the sun visors have been removed. The seller does not have them.
[ Top ] – The top is a cloth material and looks like it was originally a deep blue. It still has a blue color to it, and if it has faded, it has faded evenly. It has a lot of lint on it, but you should be able to remove it with a lint roller. The cloth itself looks ok except for a worn spot above where the driver’s head would be, and one on the right side above the window. The stitching that runs around the side windows seems to be in fine condition but the stitching around the rear window needs attention. The rear window is glass. We do not know if the rear defrost works. The power top appears to go up and down as it should.
[ Trunk ] – The carpet inside the trunk is in good condition. There is a spare tire, wheel, and a bag in the corner, which looks like tools that go with the car. The seller cannot find the correct battery cover.
[ Tires and Wheels ] – All 4 tires are Pirelli P4000s, size is 215 – 70 Z R 15. They have about 8/32 tread and look good. They do not show any cracking or serious deterioration. We did not notice any curb damage or deterioration on the rims.
[ Engine area ] – Under the hood, everything looks much as you would expect. We did not notice any major modifications; nothing apparently added or changed, although it looks like some of the A/C lines and/or compressor have been replaced. Other than age, the rest mostly looks as it was designed to look new. The insulation under the hood is dried out and cracked, but it is still usable.
[ Mechanical ] - Chad checked the following items, and they were working at the time of the listing:
• High beams and low beams
• Front and rear, right and left turn signals
• Lower fog lights
• Power antenna
• Parking lights
• Brake lights (and 3rd light above)
• Horn
• 4 way flashers
• Windshield wipers (washer do not have fluid so can’t check)
• Hood operates fine, but struts need replaced
The left and right power mirrors are not working, and one of the rear license plate light sockets is loose.
The car steers fine, just as it should. The brakes stop just as they were designed, without pulling or pulsating. Overall, the car runs very smoothly.
[ Chassis ] – The bottom side of the car looks pretty natural. You can see there is some dampness but not any significant leaks; just seepage. You can also see there were some suspension components replaced at one time. A new stainless steel exhaust system was installed a few year’s ago, from the converters back. Behind the front tires, there is rust perforation on the floor and wheel well area, particularly in the front. The seams running along the outside edges have rust perforation in the seams and the floor. It trails back to the front portion of the rear wheel wells on both sides. The wheel wells, floor boards, and rockers need to be repaired. |

After the sale (if reserve is met or not); Auto Connection must receive at least a 10% deposit (wire transfer or official bank or cashier’s check) within 3 days of the end of the auction (or the Bill of Sale is signed). The high bidder/buyer has 10 days from this time to send the balance in full or final payment and inspect the vehicle (or have a 3rd party professional inspection). |
For the most part; the vehicle for sale is not “perfect”. It is unreasonable to assume that every single flaw in the paint; body; engine; etc. or any minor mechanical items (such as a light not working) be considered a reason to refuse the vehicle. Major rust/rot; undisclosed problems with the frame; etc. might constitute a legitimate reason for the buyer to refuse to follow through with the sale. In that situation; Auto Connection would negotiate with the seller and buyer to try to reach an agreeable solution. |
The buyer acknowledges that he has had the opportunity to inspect the vehicle to verify it is as listed and represented. He accepts the vehicle with all advertised equipment; options and accessories in "AS IS" condition with any faults or defects.
